Jumping with JOY

Well, it finally happened! Drumroll please.... My little man finally slept through the night!! I'm ecstatic! Everyone we ever talked to always went on and on about the "magical" three month age of a baby and how normally by then they should sleep through the night. I would listen and think to myself that everyone was just teasing me because they knew how desperate I was for one night of uninterrupted sleep. Well, his three month birthday was on Wednesday. It came and went and he still had one feeding at night so I was a little skeptical. Then by Thursday night all my worries were put at ease! Woohoo!! That night, I kept waking up in anticipation of him getting up and even thought maybe I missed his cries, but nope, my little guy made it until the morning without waking up. I walked into his room and he was so happy to see me (every morning he smiles and giggles a little and his feet go up in down with joy as if he's trying to jump around lol). You have no idea how happy this makes me. When you have a child that is not sleeping through the night, you sit and wonder if he ever will. You listen and read horror stories of kids who still do not sleep thru the night until they are over a year old and that puts a notion of shear fear in your mind. Now I can go forward with one less thing to worry about and I am so proud of my little CP!

In other baby news, we weighed Chase unofficially (me standing on a scale and then standing with him to determine his weight) and he weighs a whopping 15 1/2 pounds. To put this in perspective, my book says he should weigh around 12 pounds... I'm actually proud of how much bigger and longer he is. I hope it's a sign that he will be tall like his dad (and with our genetics, he has a shot)! Also, my little cutie has learned to blow bubbles with his spit and let me tell you, this is a messy little habit because we have to change outfits or wear a bib constantly. The joys of little boys! Like any parent, I love every single one of his new discoveries and this one is especially fun and I cannot WAIT for what he learns to do next!

Baby UPDATE

Well, I haven't updated our blog in about a month so I think it's a good opportunity to get everyone caught up on baby Chase finally. He will be three months old on February 10th and this month has been the most fun so far with all the new stuff he's figured out how to do. First of all, he's growing like a weed which should be no surprise to anyone. He's getting so big that his infant carseat is getting too snug for him. I need to figure out when you transition to the next level carseat since my son is outgrowing the one he has. Secondly, he has found his hands. It's hilarious! Now, not to bore anyone with little details (I always listened as other parents told me their baby stories but secretly always thought "did they really think that was that interesting? They've lost it!" but now i'm one of those parents. And to be honest, I'm totally okay with that lol!!).... Anyways, he loves to move his hands or grab mine or his rattle and put them towards his mouth and slightly sticks his tongue out to taste. Now most times he doesn't seem to love the taste of whatever it is he has but it's so funny to watch. Okay, moving on, the best part of this month has been the babytalk and smiling. He now shows serious signs of becoming a little person. He smiles when he sees me or cory and he loves to talk or "coo" as it's called. It's so funny to listen to him because he seriously thinks he's telling me a story with the intensity that he talks and the faces he makes. He absolutley loves the black and white elephant pictures in his room- that's when he talks the most. He also has always been in awe of the plant/tree thing in our living room. No idea why but he seems to think it's fascinating. And every baby at this stage must love seeing themselves in the mirror so I can rest assured my son is not conceited but perfectly normal. Or as Cory's dad and I joke, the smartest, strongest, most advanced baby (since all parents think that of their kid haha)!! At the rate he's progressing he'll be driving me and Cory around in just a couple of months lol!! ;)

WHOOPSIE: In regards to Chase's infant carseat, I made a boo boo. It was brought to my attention by one of my friends (thanks Stacia!) that it adjusts in the back sooo Chase still fits in it -- we totally forgot about that feature!! This proves I'm a new mom! Haha!!

Chase's first ow--eee!

We went to the Pediatrician today and Chase had his first set of shots today. Poor baby, he didn't know what was about to happen. He's such a good baby! The pictures speak for themself!

Brrrr It's Cold!

It's been pretty cold for South Florida the past couple of nights that records have been set! We did have Chase sleeping in his own bed (he's still waking up every 3-4 hours and if I'm lucky 5 once in a blue moon) but his room is the coldest in the house. So, we've reverted to putting him in the bassinet in our room. Now, as in any normal night, his first feeding (and cry for food) comes at 2 am. I pick him up and feed him then try to get my little prince back to sleep. My child has always had a verbal side to him expecially when sleeping and his father tends to be a light sleeper. Sooo, the past two nights, once the baby gets into his grunting pattern, Cory goes and sleeps on an air mattress in the baby's room. My poor husband made a comment in a very funny tone saying that he's "made it to the bottom of the totem pole and the baby sleeps in his room and he now sleeps on the baby's cold floor" lol! I feel so bad for him but he needs his sleep for work and we really can't put Chase back in his ice box of a room yet. Once we do, hopefully we will all be sleeping through the night!

New Years 2010

I'm busy with little baby Chase so for once I am going to keep this blog entry real short! So, Cory's mom stayed until after New Years to watch Chase so we could have one last hoorah for 2009 out on the town. We made plans for dinner at China Grill and drinks at the W that opened this summer in Fort Lauderdale with three of our couple friends. We have eaten several times at the China Grill in South Beach and it is really good but I have to say that sadly the one in Fort Lauderdale is definitely not up to par. I recommend staying away for the sushi if you happen to go there...and I like sushi buffets so that should tell you how bad that sushi was lol! (there actually is a really good sushi buffet near us and everyone goes there so don't judge me! HAHA!). The W was fun and it was nice having a night out with our friends just like the good ole days!! They had met their compacity of 900 people but we had a table outside of the Living Room overlooking the ocean. There was never a line to the bathroom and I never waiting more than 2 minutes for a drink which was nice. But, to be completely honest, I don't think clubs or bars are my scene anymore. You can't hear anyone and hold a decent conversation. I have tons more fun chatting and joking at dinner than I do going somewhere loud. I don't know if it's because I have been so far removed from the going out scene in almost a year or that I am finally growing out of that phase of my life. Don't get me wrong, I really like being with my friends but I rather be able to converse without having to yell over the music and the drunk people around me. Either way, all in all, New Years was a lot of fun and I'm glad we went out!!!! HAPPY NEW YEARS EVERYONE!! (I guess I didn't really keep this entry that short haha!)

Baby's First Christmas

Well, we ventured out of the house again as a family. We couldn't miss the opportunity to have Chase's first Christmas picture with Santa Claus! And I'm totally game for any opportunity I have to get out of the house!! It was nice because this Santa looked super authentic and was super jolly (I think he was the real Santa! Lol) AND he was so sweet to our little elf. Unfortunately, being an infant and probably still sleeping during the day, sleeping beauty slept the entire time. He made his usual groans and grunts when I took him from the stroller and didn't open his eyes one bit as I placed him in a large white bearded strangers arms. I'm sure he would have been in shock if he had cared to wake up snd see who was holding him but that was not the case. As the girl was snapping away, she turned to Cory and I to see if we wanted to be in the picture. Now, as you will see, the picture speaks for itself. In a moment of hesitation we decided we would, even though being new parents, we left the house looking exactly like that, "new" parents. I like to define us as "delirious but still sane" because it never fails, I always forget to do something, this time it was making sure we looked presentable. I barely did my hair, Cory didn't do his and neither one of us were dressed appropriately. You could totally tell the difference between the parents of toddlers 3+ years and those of infants. The experienced parents were all dressed up in slacks and dresses and their children were nicely polished and dressed as fancy as they could get them. New parents were dressed as if they had 20 minutes to throw on clothes with circles under their eyes (you gotta get dresses as fast as you can, dress the baby, feed the baby, change a diaper, feed him some more, change another diaper, feed him some more, get him in his carseat, pack his bag with ready formula etc - in short, it's no minimal task). All in all, i am glad we did it though because it will be a great memory for all of us!

Sleep Deprived!

Well, it's 2 am and my little guy (I should say big guy bc he's growing so fast and is a big baby) is up for another feeding. He eats literally every 2-3 hours like clockwork! I keep hearing from people that by now their babies were sleeping 4-6 hours at night, not my guy, he's still up to eat! Now normally people who tell me their kids are sleeping longer by now are parents of girls-I still am weary as to why my baby refuses to sleep that long- does he know I am desperate for sleep and already knows how to manipulate mommy and has me wrapped around his little finger? If so, I'm screwed already!!

So, as in every night within every couple of hours, the monitor wakes me up (I should say wakes Cory up and he wakes me up-- I've gone so many nights without sleep that it's hard to wake up once I do get any) and I go get the baby a bottle ready (I'm breastfeeding twice a day but formula feeding at night so he fills up bc who knows how long he'd sleep if I only breastfed- maybe an hour and half lol - it's not hard to get ready bc I have everything set up so I can take as little time as possible preparing his bottle while he cries). So I wake up, ready his bottle and normally change his diaper. Now being a boy, there is always a chance of getting sprayed with pee, and believe me, there isn't a person or wall or anything within a ten inch distance that he hasn't gotten!! But tonight, he topped everything! I was changing him as fast as I could trying to not risk me getting wet and for the second I was grabbing a diaper- he was already at it. I've gotten pretty used to this but I looked down and saw a perturbed look on my baby's face and noticed he had somehow, with his little hose, sprayed himself in the eye, nose, and mouth and even he couldn't believe he'd done that!! I quickly cleaned him off but couldn not help but giggle a little bc everyday it's something new and something I never thought would happen. Between sleep deprivation, my back still aching still after pregnancy since my uterus is still shrinking (no one tells you this has to happen) and every 2-3 hour feedings--anything to make me laugh is worth every minute, but I'm not going to lie--- I can't wait for him to sleep a little longer so I can too- hopefully that night is right around the corner! My only advice to people without kids is, GET ALL THE SLEEP YOU CAN because those days are long behind you once you have your little bundle of joy :)
